Selling digital downloads

Digital products are files you sell and deliver by email — ebooks, presets, templates, music. Upload the files, set a price, and buyers get a secure, expiring download link right after checkout. No shipping, no inventory.

Selling digital downloads

A digital product is a file (or set of files) you sell and deliver by email — an ebook, a preset pack, a template, a sample pack, a software licence. There's no shipping and no inventory: after checkout the buyer receives a secure, expiring download link for each file.

Create a digital product

    1. Open Products and click New product → Digital download.
    2. Add the basics: title, description, preview image(s).
    3. Set a price. Enter 0 for a free download.
    4. Upload your files. They're stored privately — customers only ever reach them through a signed link, never a public URL.
    5. Set download limits (optional): how many times each link can be used, and how long it stays valid. Defaults are 5 downloads over 30 days.
    6. Publish when ready.

How delivery works

When the order is paid, Zillo emails the buyer one link per file. Each link points at a Zillo address that, when clicked, generates a fresh short-lived download URL — so the same link keeps working (up to your limits) even if the buyer comes back to it later.

The links survive re-clicks until they hit the download cap or the expiry date. If a customer's link runs out, open their order and click Resend download links to issue a fresh email.

Updating files

Editing a digital product lets you add or remove files. Removing a file also revokes any outstanding download links that pointed at it, so only upload files you intend to keep delivering.

Refunds

Refunding a digital order revokes the buyer's download links immediately — the links stop working even if they haven't expired. See Refunding an order.
