Collect product reviews

Let verified buyers leave star ratings and reviews on your product pages, approve every one before it appears, and automatically email customers to ask for a review after their order is fulfilled. Free on every plan.

Collect product reviews

Reviews are the cheapest, most persuasive marketing you have. A product page with real star ratings converts noticeably better than one without — shoppers trust other shoppers. Zillo lets your customers rate and review what they bought, gives you the final say on what gets shown, and can ask buyers for a review automatically after they receive their order. It's free on every plan.

How reviews work on Zillo, in short

  • You turn reviews on per product, so you decide exactly what's open for review.
  • Only verified buyers can leave one — someone has to have actually purchased the product.
  • Every review arrives as Pending and shows nothing publicly until you approve it.
  • You can have Zillo email buyers automatically to invite a review.

Turn reviews on for a product

Reviews stay off until you enable them on a product, so nothing appears without your say-so.

    1. Open the product from Products and edit it.
    2. Under "Terms & conditions", tick "Let customers leave reviews".
    3. Save. A star rating and reviews section now appear on that product's storefront page.

Turn reviews on for your most-loved products first. A handful of glowing reviews on your best seller does more for conversion than thin coverage spread across your whole catalogue.

How customers leave a review

Only verified buyers can review — the customer must have bought the product on a fulfilled order. They reach the review form in one of two ways:

  • From the review-request email (see below), or
  • By returning to the product page after their purchase.

Every submission carries the email address on the buyer's order, so Zillo can confirm the purchase before the review counts. This keeps out spam and fake reviews from people who never bought from you.

You approve every review

New reviews land as Pending. Nothing shows on your storefront until you approve it, so a one-off bad day for a customer never blindsides your product page.

    1. Open Reviews in the sidebar.
    2. Read each pending review.
    3. Click "Publish" to show it on the product page, or "Reject" to keep it hidden.

Once published, a review appears on the product page and rolls into the product's overall star rating.

Don't reject reviews just because they're critical — a page of nothing but five stars reads as fake. A thoughtful three- or four-star review, especially one you've clearly listened to, builds more trust than a wall of perfect scores.

Ask customers for a review automatically

Most happy customers won't think to leave a review unless you ask. Turn on review-request emails and Zillo will email buyers a set time after their order is fulfilled, inviting them to review the products they bought (only the ones where you've enabled reviews).

    1. Open Reviews.
    2. Tick "Send post-purchase review-request emails" and choose how long after fulfilment to wait — 72 hours by default.
    3. Save.

The default 72-hour delay is a good starting point: long enough that the customer has actually used the product, soon enough that the experience is still fresh. Nudge it shorter for instant digital items, longer for something they need time to enjoy.

Review-request emails are transactional — they only go to people who bought from you — so they're free and don't count as marketing. You can edit the wording in Settings → Email content.
